Scott Payne (b. 1998, Milton Keynes) is an artist currently based in London. His work explores the concept of borders as well as the issues that arise around them.

My artistic practice is based around the concept of borders, in that they are an inherently man-made construct. I realised my interest in borders when I was studying Fine Art at Coventry University. This was due to the media coverage of the Brexit negotiations and their impact on the border between the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, Donald Trump's rhetoric around building a wall along the US-Mexico border and the Global Refugee crisis. However, it was during my Erasmus placement at the University of Nicosia in Cyprus that borders were cemented as an integral part of my practice, due to my daily interactions with the Green Line that divides Cyprus into multiple parts.

Sculpture and Installation are a key aspect of my practice, as they allow me to experiment with how to physically show a man-made construct. They also allow me to experiment with how the viewer interacts with the work, as this adds an additional dimension to the three-dimensional forms I create. Zines are another aspect of my practice, as they allow me to further contextualise my work and educate the viewer about the issues raised. They also allow the context and meaning to be viewed in unconventional places of display.
